Why the Broadway Plan Hero 1536x1040

A close look at the 30-year redevelopment strategy for the Broadway Corridor

Vancouver’s Broadway Plan is a 30-year strategy for the redevelopment of West Broadway between Vine Street and Clark Drive and 1st through 16th avenues. The plan includes comprehensive guidelines to intensify live, work and play opportunities in the neighbourhoods of Kitsilano, Fairview and Mount Pleasant, using the addition of the Broadway Subway line as a catalyst. Covering almost 500 blocks and with the potential to create 30,000 new housing units, accommodate 50,000 new residents, and add more than 40,000 jobs, in hundreds of buildings, a second downtown could materialize within a city that is rapidly growing.

This report delves into the current state of the Broadway Corridor; why the City of Vancouver is implementing such a big, bold plan; the vision for the Broadway Corridor; as well as the risks involved should Vancouver not plan for growth and development.
