VANCOUVER, September 11, 2018 – Today, Amsterdam-born creative workspace pioneer, Spaces, is opening the doors to its first location in Vancouver. Located in Gastown at 151 West Hastings Street, the five-storey workspace will cater to businesses of all sizes that recognize the strategic benefits of co-working and shared office. With Vancouver’s office vacancy rate among the lowest in North America, according to Colliers International’s report, Q4 2017 Metro Vancouver Office Market Report, Spaces’ new location will bring highly sought-after dynamic and collaborative workspaces to the city’s burgeoning startup, technology and entrepreneurial scene.
Spaces Gastown is a creative working environment with a unique entrepreneurial spirit.
“Spaces is redefining the way work is done, providing a contemporary, social and inspirational environment with a focus on community,” said Martijn Roordink, co-founder of Spaces. “Vancouver is a prime location for our Canadian growth due to the city’s incredible demand for contemporary and unique office spaces. Today, we’re opening the doors to our first creative working environment in Gastown, and we’ll continue to open our inspiring workspaces in Vancouver over the coming months.”
Spaces Gastown is a 35,000 square foot workspace in a former warehouse with Romanesque architecture. It has a modern, Dutch-inspired interior with large collaborative areas, team rooms, phone booths, dedicated co-working spaces, fully-equipped meeting rooms and furnished private offices. Each on-demand workspace is fitted with designer furniture – whether members need it for an hour or for many years.
The dynamic new Gastown workspace also includes:
• Kafka’s Coffee & Tea—its newest and third location—which will provide stellar coffee to Spaces members and the community
• Games on every floor for much-needed brain breaks, from foosball to Giant Jenga
• Glass walls to draw on for intense and productive brainstorming sessions
• A vibrant and exclusive rooftop patio for members to relax, network and brainstorm while enjoying stunning views of the city
The stunning rooftop patio is an ideal place for brainstorming, meeting, networking or taking time to rejuvenate.
Spaces thrives through its local and global partnerships. With a culture of interesting people doing exciting things, Spaces Gastown will partner with local community members to host a full calendar of events from rooftop yoga to happy hour social events and educational workshops like Blockchain 101 and Startup Talks. Globally, Spaces is the first and only co-working partner of TEDx communities, which thrive on a similar philosophy: “ideas worth sharing.”
“Vancouver has an incredible demand for the kind of progressively designed, contemporary and flexible office space that Spaces is bringing to Gastown,” said Sean Elbe, Manager of Technology Sector Development, Vancouver Economic Commission, a supporting partner of Spaces in Vancouver. “In addition to being yet another vote of confidence in the diverse cluster that technology and digital entertainment companies have built in Vancouver, the opening of Spaces in Vancouver provides local companies access to a global network and gives visiting representatives of international companies a direct line into the city. This kind of co-working space enables founders and investors from all over the world to freely connect and collaborate in a community-building environment – one located in a neighbourhood known for being a hotbed of innovative technology startups.”
According to Colliers International’s latest National Office Market Dashboard of Metro Areas with Populations over 1 Million, as of the second quarter of 2018, Downtown Vancouver’s office vacancy rate sat at 2.8 per cent. Spaces will provide a solution to the city’s low office vacancy rates by opening three locations by end of the year – one in Gastown, and by the fall of 2018, one in Granville and another in Mt. Pleasant, totaling 145,000 square feet of co-working space.
“We are seeing a massive global shift in how companies view office space,” said Colin Scarlett, Executive Vice President with Colliers International in Vancouver, who helped Spaces secure its locations. “Spaces is at the forefront of changing the way people use office space, moving away from traditional long-term leases with no flexibility, to fully flexible, managed and curated spaces. Spaces sees the opportunities in Vancouver and will be expanding rapidly in this market.”
Spaces has three locations open in Canada—Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver—with plans to add 15 Canadian locations in the next two years. Today, Spaces has 137 locations in 30 countries and 94 cities around the world. Spaces members who travel frequently have access to a global network of over 3,000 flexible workspace options through the IWG network, which owns Spaces.
Spaces Gastown is hosting an opening launch event on Friday, September 28, 2018. Media, forward thinkers, innovators and game changers are invited to join the launch party at 151 West Hastings Street, from 5PM – 9PM. RSVP here.
