Growth requires move from ideal space
Unifor is Canada's largest private sector union, with more than 315,000 members across the country, working in every major sector of the Canadian economy. Having outgrown their fully-owned corporate headquarters in Toronto, Unifor’s new space needed to be approximately three times the size of its current office. The existing space was ideal in many ways: bright and modern and fully accessible by transit. Unifor also valued the exposure their current office had on one of the country's busiest highways.
Understanding client’s needs, delivering the best solution
When Matthew Johnson of Colliers’ Not-for-Profit Advisory Group began working with Unifor to discuss the possibilities of the new space, they considered relocation as well as construction of a brand-new facility. After compiling benchmarking information and consulting key stakeholders, a clear set of requirements for the new headquarters became clear. Unifor's unique nature as a not-for-profit entity also required special consideration of tax status, discretion and other non-profit specific needs.
Today, Unifor calls a 144,000 square foot facility in North York home; one that the Not-for-Profit Advisory Group found for them off-market, and below market value. The headquarters features landmark visibility on that very same highway, proudly reinforcing the prominence of the Unifor brand.
