Demand accelerates growth of co-working spaces with three new locations coming to Toronto
TORONTO, June 13, 2018 – Today, Spaces, an Amsterdam-born creative workspace, announces new co-working locations coming to Canada. The co-working company, which opened its first Canadian location in Toronto in November 2017, has an aggressive growth plan to be the leading co-working space in Canada. Adding to its portfolio, which includes locations in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, Spaces will open three more prominent Toronto locations in Yorkville (August 2018), Liberty Village (2019) and North York (2019), totaling 130,000 square feet of vibrant and collaborative co-working and shared office space in Toronto.
“There’s a significant shift in the way people are working that’s driving our national expansion across Canada,” said Wayne Berger, Executive Vice President, IWG Canada and Latin America (IWG owns Spaces). “Our three new openings in Toronto will provide aspirational modern collaborative workspaces in unique and exciting buildings.”
Spaces Yorkville
Spaces will open its third Canadian location in Yorkville in August 2018. The location at 99 Yorkville Avenue will offer 20,000 square foot of upscale co-working space in the prestigious Toronto neighbourhood. Featuring three exclusive patios, the location is opening just in time for Toronto International Film Festival as a place for people to network, connect and share ideas. The building is also home to Sofia, Charles Khabouth’s new Italian restaurant.
Spaces Liberty Village
In the heart of Liberty Village, one of the most unique buildings coming to Toronto is the first timber building being constructed in the city in 50 years. Spaces Liberty Village (80 Atlantic Ave.) will occupy 20,000 square feet in the new timber building, which will also be home to Universal Music. The workspace will feature exposed mass timber columns and beams with cross-laminated timber ceilings and incorporate warm, natural wood materials not seen in any other downtown office building. The progressive building complies with Toronto Green Development standards and targets a level of energy performance beyond the 90th percentile of its asset class according to the 2015 BOMA Best National Report.
Spaces North York
The North York location (5200 Yonge St) will take over three floors of office space and a rooftop patio at the new residential, commercial and retail development. Spaces will bring 40,000 square feet of co-working space in a floor-to-ceiling glass podium with 20-foot towering ceilings. Spaces selected this area because many large development projects will bring massive growth in retail, restaurants and vibrancy to the area. It will also offer its community of forward-thinkers and innovators one of the brightest office spaces in Toronto.
“We are seeing a change in the way companies are taking up office space, which is moving away from the traditional corporate head offices to more collaborative, shared workspaces,” said Tobin Davis, Executive Vice President with Colliers International, who helped Spaces secure its three new locations. “Spaces is rapidly changing the office landscape in Toronto with its modern, creative workspaces. Colliers is proud to be on this journey with Spaces as the company caters to the evolving needs of tenants and brings the workplace of the future to Canada.”
“Toronto is an incredible ecosystem for startups, global enterprise partners, entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders,” Berger commented. “By partnering with Colliers on these office deals, we are bringing a workplace revolution to Toronto, giving its community of innovators the most unique and dynamic places to thrive and do the best work of their lives.”
Spaces has 92 locations in 25 countries with a strong presence in Europe, the U.S. and Australia. The workspace pioneer will be expanding rapidly in Canada.
