Spaces coming to Ottawa and three new Toronto locations at The Shift, Financial Core, and The Junction
TORONTO, July 16, 2019 – Earlier this month, Spaces, the Amsterdam-born creative workspace, announced four new coworking locations coming to Ontario. Adding to the company’s portfolio of vibrant coworking spaces in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, the four new locations will bring the company to a total of 10 locations in Toronto, one in Ottawa, and 18 across Canada.
The new Spaces locations will open in three unique buildings in the Toronto’s east end, west end, and financial core, and its first Ottawa location. The buildings include First Gulf’s latest King Street East neighbourhood development The Shift (25 Ontario Street), Royal Bank Plaza (200 Bay Street) in the heart of Canada’s and Toronto’s financial district, a heritage building in The Junction (1655 Dupont Street), and 66 Slater Street, a former government building in Ottawa owned by KingSett Capital, which has undergone a modernization and repositioning by Colonnade BridgePort.
“The announcement of these locations in three of Toronto’s diverse neighbourhoods — as well as our first location in Ottawa — shows Spaces’ commitment to opening in the most unique and desirable locations,” said Wayne Berger, CEO, IWG Canada and Latin America (IWG owns Spaces). “The Spaces’ brand of creative coworking isn’t just about the flexibility and collaboration that happens inside the buildings — it’s about finding the most strategic locations, and the best buildings and communities to activate and establish vibrant working ecosystems.”
Spaces The Shift
Spaces The Shift, at 25 Ontario Street, is a First Gulf development coming to Toronto’s trendy King Street East neighbourhood. Spaces will occupy over 105,000 square feet on six floors of the highly-anticipated 24-storey LEED Gold office building. The new location features an exclusive 2,200 square foot terrace for Spaces members, the latest SMART building technology, and a dedicated stairwell for Spaces members from the main lobby. Spaces The Shift is slated to open in 2022.
Spaces Bay Street
Spaces Bay Street will occupy 50,000 square feet on three floors at 200 Bay Street, in Royal Bank Plaza. Featuring triple height ceilings in the financial tower, the new coworking location will offer startups, SMEs, and large corporations a highly sought-after location in the heart of the financial district. This Spaces location includes a balcony that overlooks the Spaces’ café and collaborative areas and will be an ideal spot for networking and casual meetings. Spaces Bay Street is slated to open in Fall 2019.
Spaces The Junction
Spaces The Junction (1655 Dupont Street) will occupy four floors and over 40,000 square feet of a designated heritage building in the heart of The Junction; a building that is also home to the successful Canadian startup Freshbooks. The bright, repurposed brick-and-beam building will be transformed into vibrant coworking space and will be the first Spaces location in what was recently named Toronto’s best neighbourhood to live. Spaces The Junction is slated to open in Fall 2019.
Spaces Slater Street (Ottawa)
The first Spaces to open in Ottawa, Spaces Slater Street (66 Slater Street) will take up 75,000 square feet of a newly modernized building that used to be home to government employees. Spaces will occupy from the ground level to the sixth floor, on the high-profile corner of Slater and Elgin Street, steps from Confederation Park and Parliament Hill. The environmentally-sound and technologically-advanced building is a Colonnade BridgePort managed building, boasting the internationally-recognized green building certification LEED Gold and finalizing WiredScore Gold certification.
“Colliers is proud to be Spaces’ long-term partner, helping bring increasingly dynamic and unique workspaces to Canadians across the country,” said Tobin Davis, Executive VP, Colliers International. “With these four new locations, Spaces will alter the office landscape in Toronto and Ottawa, providing modern workspaces and choice to a collaborative, creative and enterprising workforce.”
Spaces has 185 locations in 54 countries and 205 cities around the world and opening 160 new locations this year. Spaces currently has presence in Canada in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
