Over the last five years, I have seen many stats floating around regarding the supply of self-storage in the Greater Toronto Area. In my experience, most of these stats are arbitrary estimates derived from dated data and do not consider either new supply or actual rentable areas. Further, as upwards of 15 new facilities have been constructed in the GTA in the last three years, determining the actual current supply is a significant undertaking.
With that, Colliers has conducted an in-depth study of every major market in Canada with regards to current supply of self-storage space. Our first market study was completed for Toronto; studies for Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Ottawa will follow in the coming months.
