Colliers Real Estate Management Services is reporting new data that will guide owners and managers of retail assets on how e-commerce and brick and mortar can be used effectively to drive sales and performance.

As Colliers previously reported, e-commerce and brick and mortar are “friends, not foes.” In 2023, retailers who developed synergies between both points of sale were 35% more likely to be profitable.

In A full cart: maximizing e-commerce and brick and mortar retail, we surveyed a stratified sample of approximately 500 Canadian shoppers to highlight the differences between the type of consumer likely to use each point of sale, products likely to perform best on each platform, and the prime motivations for shopping online vs. a physical storefront.

For example, the prime motivator to shop online is convenience.

Motivation to shop online

Knowing the value of convenience is the main reason to shop online, owners and managers are advised to consider enhancements – such as redesigning pedestrian walkways or using real-time parking data – to facilitate convenience across the property, particularly for necessity retail.
