Colliers Real Estate Management Services (REMS) team applies sustainability lens to client campus
At Airport Executive Park in Richmond, B.C., 13 campus-style office buildings are spread across 35 acres, for a total 700,000 square feet of office space. The assets are owned by Fiera Real Estate and managed by Colliers’ Canadian REMS team.
For Fiera, ESG principles are essential parts of their approach to asset and portfolio management. This priority is reflected in the fact that each building at Airport Executive Park holds a BOMA Gold or Silver rating: two are certified LEED Silver, and one LEED Gold.
Our REMS members work closely with Fiera to identify opportunities to improve performance and set consistent operational standards in line with their ESG strategy. In 2022, we launched a custom ESG program at the complex that at once is beneficial for tenants and the community, and supports Fiera’s ESG mission. The “Super Green Project” focused on:
Community Garden: Property managers and tenants cultivate a vegetable garden with food donated to the Richmond Food Bank.
Honeybees: Two hives have been installed to grow their population and pollinate gardens throughout the park.
Worm farms: Here, worms consume organic waste and produce “castings” then used as fertilizer in the garden.
Rainwater: 50-gallon cisterns collect rainwater off the building’s roof, used to water the garden
At the complex, we have also helped implement eco- initiatives such as EV charging stations, LED lighting and a full recycling/organics program, while analyzing utility data, researching renewable energy solutions and helping Fiera achieve BOMA Best and LEED certification. Meanwhile, tenants are engaged through environmental and social campaigns and events throughout the year in an effort to raise awareness and encourage best practices while on-site.
