Levi Higgs is a building focused energy management and sustainability professional with over 10 years of practical experience supporting municipal and private sector organizations. He is a Certified Energy Manager and Project Management Professional, with experience developing and implementing energy management and sustainability related corporate policies, programs, and targets; working with multidisciplinary teams overseeing the identification, design, and implementation of energy efficiency and emissions reduction projects; developing and presenting project plans and business cases; gathering, analyzing, and reconciling building energy and carbon data; and managing nationally focused capacity building programs. Through strong knowledge of energy and change management best practices, Levi has dedicated himself to developing and leveraging the appropriate tools and processes to drive change in the built environment. Levi understands profoundly the great opportunity that the Canadian real-estate sector has to help achieve national climate mitigation targets, as well as other socio-economic goals, and wants to utilize his expertise and support solutions-oriented activities in the industry.
Past Work Accomplishments
-Led the development and delivery of the Disclosure Challenge, a national initiative to champion the importance of data transparency in the Canadian real estate market.
-Managed the development and implementation of the Investor Confidence Project Program, including the internal project flow processes, which strives to support increased standardization and the development and implementation of quality energy retrofit projects in Canada.
-Managed the development and delivery of an NRCAN supported Decarbonizing Study, which researched different building archetypes in five Canadian cities and the associated low carbon retrofit packages that could be considered to support deep emissions reductions.
City of Richmond
-Managed over $2.0 million in funding for energy management and efficiency retrofit related projects, which included developing the associated business case analysis and successful capital funding request processes.
-Led the update to City’s High Performance Building Policy, which included sustainability objectives and guidelines, as well as a goal to build net zero energy and carbon neutral facilities by 2030.
-Led the establishment of a corporate building GHG emissions reduction targets
-Managed the annual corporate energy use and emissions reporting requirements, including projections, to help ensure that the City of Richmond annually achieved carbon neutral corporate operations.
