A seemingly simple question then becomes more complex as we tried to answer it.
Is the largest retailer the one with the greatest global revenue? Highest sales volume in Canada alone? The largest single banner or collective of many store banners? Or is size simply a measure of floor area? We have all the answers to the one question of Canada’s largest retailer in the Spring 2015 Retail Report.
Highlights from the report:
- Depending on how you measure size, Canada's largest retailer is either Walmart, George Weston Limited, Alimentation Couche-Tard or Apple.
- Colliers’ forecasts of retail spending for 2014 were off by only .04% for the country as a whole.
- Alberta's growth of 7.65% over the year earlier total is likely the last time the province will lead the provincial growth rates until oil prices grow substantially.
- Major market retail survey results show Victoria is trending towards a tenant’s market again. Vancouver and Calgary are the priciest shopping centre markets, while Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Montréal are all displaying more stability in retail lease and vacancy rates than in recent years.
