Creating a sustainable environment in the buildings we manage has always been at the forefront of Colliers Real Estate Management Services’ philosophy.
On March 23, Colliers-managed properties across Canada took part in Earth Hour 2013, a global event that urges people to turn off their lights for just one hour. Mississauga Executive Centre (MEC), a 1.1 million square foot office complex located in Mississauga, Ontario, used 30% less energy during Earth Hour.
Last summer, Colliers Real Estate Management Services introduced an exclusive partnership with 1-800-GOT-JUNK? to assist with waste management at Colliers properties across Canada. To date, they have removed 27 tonnes of waste from Colliers’ managed properties, and of that, 47% was diverted from the landfill and sent to recycling stations – that’s 12.7 tonnes!
Recently, Colliers Real Estate Management Services entered into an agreement with Shift Recycling, which provides electronic waste removal for tenants in our Ontario properties. Colliers' own office in downtown Toronto was also able to benefit from this new program by sending 297 pounds of electronic waste for recycling as opposed to sending it to the landfill.
Colliers Real Estate Management Services has introduced these initiatives to help support and encourage you to be greener at work and in all of our day-to-day lives.
Colliers has also recently commenced facility services for 136 Isabella Street, home to the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and the newest LEED® Platinum property under Colliers’ management – a shining example of sustainability in the built environment!
